I will never forget my first sighting of a dazzling western tanager: a startling red head, the brilliant yellow breast, and a flash of black on the wings. At twelve years old I was hooked on birding.
The complex behaviors and astounding adaptations of birds, and their indispensable place in the web of life, have become a life-long fascination. I have traveled the world seeking out spectacular species: multi-colored parrots in Australia, purple honeycreepers in Trinidad, and jewel-like bee-eaters in Botswana. On-site sketches and photographs from the wild, as well as backyard studies, provide the source material for the more developed oil paintings.
